Unfortunately, this reflects military doctrine. The Prussians didn't invent the tactic of dehumanizing the enemy in the eyes of the soldiers they trained, but they perfected it. If you look at the first half of the twentieth century, most countries had German instructors for their military.
Why did the Prussians push this kind of training? Because in most wars, without that training, most soldiers either do not fire their weapons or they fire above the enemy. It's a myth that humans are natural killers. They have to be trained.
I don't like what Bush and his friends are doing to a generation of Americans while hypocritically talking about democracy.
