the home horror movie
Someone said this question is for both Jesse and for the co-producer and asked, ''What is the movie about?'' And we both looked at each other and were both equally kind of dumbfounded. There's no real easy way to put in one sentence what this movie's about.
New York Times: Questions for Jesse Friedman, of Capturing the Friedmans.

Did you see his picture in the New York Times Magazine? He seems to be staring down the camera, and the audience, as if to say, "I defy you to tell me I am a liar."
Have you seen the movie?

I didn't see the mag pic. I did see the movie, and loved watching it, and thought it was incredibly well-done.

Interesting review of the film by Ella Taylor (LA Weekly); also this one in the Voice.

Apparently there are scores of people who know the truth. He says in the NYM interview that he wishes "that people in the computer class would come forward and speak up."
or something like that.
hysteria.

Well, all those people knew their individual truths, not "the truth," of course. But the film makes the claims of abuse seem extraordinarily far-fetched and unsubstantiated by any meaningful evidence. It's just jaw-dropping.

How would you parrallel this to the R. Kelly thing?
Keeping inmind that one was abuse, and the other was solicitation of sex. Or, are they the same thing? Why the different reactions?

I don't know enough about the R. Kelly case, apart from the supposed existence of this controversial videotape, to draw a parallel.
