I live in the center of town. It's like urban-suburban, because it's right there but it's houses and lawns and parks and you can ride your bike and there's a dog, and maybe there's a homeless person walking down the street, too, but it's a nice town. People like to live there, people seem to be happy. It's liberal, and there's recycling and yoga and things like that.

talks with Pitchforkmedia.com. Maybe that line from "Shady Lane," "Stress surrounds/in the muddy peaceful center of this town," was inspired by his digs? Or maybe you don't care.

I care so much I could just spit on a stranger. But if you don't care, you could treat like an oil well, when it's underground; out of sight.

I know him, and it's not.

Have you heard Nickel Creek's version of "Spit On a Stranger"?

Yeah--Nickel Creek's almost a local band here, so the cover gets played every once in a while on the alternative radio station. The guy's voice annoys me.
There are *way* too many bands that I can say that about.

Where is "here" again? LA?
Yeah, I'm not too fond of that cover, but I was glad we have the Internet so I could d/l it and listen without having to buy the album.

Close; San Diego. Nickel Creek's from one of the bedroom communities to the north of here. A couple members of the band are cousins of my old boss, so I've known about them for quite a while.
I think what annoys me about it how he adds all the extra syllables, like "Whatever you nee-heed". SM did a little of that in the original, but for whatever reason it didn't grate quite so much.
