Did you know 38,000 people, including 13,000 athletes, were in Sydney, Australia last week for the Gay Games VI 2002? NY Rising, my girlfriend's bad news bears team from Brooklyn (most of the team smokes at half-time) won the silver in soccer! (They gave up smoking this summer and became a bunch of amazon, circuits training freaks.) Go team!

What is particularly "offbeat" about this topic? How and why does it compare to "Gates honored with big condom" (offbeat news du jour)?
