If you were to compare Iraq to Vietnam, this statement would certainly give you a decent basis for argument. Nixon and Kissinger justified bombing Cambodia and Hanoi in terms of credibility. (Just saw The Trials of Henry Kissinger--a must-see!) Except you could argue that Schlesinger isn't talking about the credibility of the U.S. as a global superpower, but of the Bush Administration itself.
